The boys and I just got back from a trip to Oregon. It was a fast trip with lots of driving, but we had fun. We drove over to Meridian to pick up Grammy who came with us, then we left for Bend, OR for the first night. While we were there, we had dinner and looked around Sisters, OR. It's a cute little town but was very smoky from the wildfires that were burning in the area.
The next day, we drove down to Medford, OR to meet Mollie, a Lowry cousin. My great-grandfather had 6 siblings and 6 half siblings. He didn't pass on much information about the other 12 siblings, so I have done lots of research the past year and have found several of their children are still living. It has been fun corresponding with them. Mollie had some pictures and documents that I wanted to get a copy of, so we thought we'd go meet her. I brought my laptop and scanner and got to work. It was wonderful meeting her and going through her old photo albums. In doing so, we realized that my mom and her had actually met back in 1969. Mollie had a photo of her dad with my grandma. How cool is that!?!
We then drove up to Eugene, OR to visit with my Grandpa. We stayed with my aunt and was able to have a nice visit. After Grandma past away in January, Grandpa moved into an independent living home. It was nice to see where he was living and meet some of his friends, we even had lunch with him there. TJ's parents and youngest brother drove down to see us for an hour, which was an extra treat.
On our way home, we found an old covered bridge. It was fun to walk around and look into the water.
Then we headed to Crater Lake. We had to do some backtracking to get there, but it was worth the extra driving. The view was breathtaking. Cohen loved walking along the rock wall and climbing around the 'mountain' or trails to look down into the lake. It was a good day.
I'm glad Grammy was able to go with us, as the boys needed to have someone to entertain them during the many hours of driving.
