We had our first broken bone in our family back on July 29th. The
boys were playing in their room, Raiden was on the top of the bunk bed
ladder about to come down and Cohen was in the middle. I told Cohen to
get down so Raiden could climb down. Cohen missed the bottom step,
jumped onto the floor, his feet slipped, he went to catch himself with
his right hand, but it also slipped back due to the momentum of his
body. As he crawled over to me crying, I could tell something was not
right! His right elbow was disconnected...gone. I carried him to the
couch and called the doctors office. I didn't have the van nor a way to
get a hold of TJ who was still at work. Thankfully, a neighbor friend
was able to watch Raiden while I used her car to take Cohen to Quick
Care. They were not able to do an x-ray because it was to painful to
move. They had us go over to the ER so they could give him medicine
first. He would have moments of tears, crying and screaming, then calm
down before another wave of pain hit him. It was hard to stay strong
for him and not cry myself.
Daddy arrived just as we
were getting into a room at the ER. After some meds through an IV they
went down for x-ray. Sure enough it was broken and disconnected, the
Orthopedic Surgeon on-call wanted to do surgery to put it back in place
and it may need to be pinned as well. The operating room was busy, so
we were admitted into a room upstairs to wait.
I
came home to put Raiden & Molly to bed as we didn't know when
he would have the surgery. Another friend came over really late so I
could get back to the hospital. I was there until Cohen went down to
surgery around 11:30 pm then headed back home. TJ stayed and was up
most of the night with Cohen. He was out of surgery around 2 am. They
did have to pin his arm, but the pins would come out after a few weeks
in the office. He was able to come home by 10 am. His arm was in a
soft splint and we would see the doctor in one week for a hard cast.
We
watched a ton of movies the first week and he slept in the living room
too so we could prop up his arm. After 6 weeks in the cast, we are
done! With two rambunctious boys, I'm sure this was just our first of
several broken bones.

Oh no! So sorry. I think that Waylon's broken arm was the most traumatic thing I've been through. His arm looked like rubber. It still makes me queasy thinking about it. I hope Cohen heals fast.
