After about 6-9 months of attempting to potty train and either Mommy or Cohen giving up because of frustration, Cohen finally mastered going potty in the toilet. He had been successful at going pee for a long time, but couldn't get pooping part figured out. After wearing the pull-ups for so many months, they just seemed like diapers. If I didn't take him faithfully, he would wet/mess his pants and be fine with it. I had attempted underwear before, but got grossed out when he refused to go poop in the toilet and messed his pants several days in a row. We had tried candy, treats and stickers, we even tried a rest on the bed when he messed his pants, but nothing motivated him enough.
After turning 3 on the 20th, I was done with pull-ups and wanted him to be a big boy. We went to underwear on the 21st, had a couple days of accidents. One experience helped him realize the importance of staying dry and going in the toilet. After pooping and then peeing his pants while we were out with Grammy and Grandpa. Cohen wanting to go to the playground, but we told him we couldn't because of his messy pants. (He loves the playground.) We had lots and lots of tears and screams as he sat on the toilet off and on all afternoon and early evening. Finally, success!!! He pooped! He started going in to the bathroom to go pee by himself after a few days and now, the same with poop. We have been accident free for 6 days. He still wears pull-ups at night, just in case. But most mornings, he has been dry. I guess for Cohen, he had to turn the magical three before he was ready to be a big boy and wear underwear.
